just throwing down a little post to say we made it to my mom's friend matt's home in pifo! haven't been able to explore much yet as we arrived late last night and slept in a bit on account of having a nice bed to lay down in, as opposed to the floor of the houston airport we slept on yesterday morning after a sleepless night packing and a very bumpy plane ride. the weather is beautiful, 60s and sunny.  it's pretty high altitude here, about 2800m, so the air feels thin but it's not nearly as bad as i had thought it might be! matt and his family have two dogs and a courtyard area with lots of flowers. looking forward to checking out the surroundings and figuring out where we're going to learn spanish!  more posts to come when there's more to say. :)

hey all

so! welcome to the page. i haven't blogged since middle school, and scott hasn't blogged ever, so bear with us while we adjust to the ~blogosphere~ and get used to posting!

as many of you already know, scott and i are headed to south america for as long as our funds permit! we don't have much of anything planned, because that's the way we like it. along the way we'll be staying with scattered friends and family, couchsurfing, wwoofing, camping, and sleeping on busses. we hope to spend our days wandering, learning spanish, volunteering, hiking, sunning, eating, meeting new people, and generally experiencing life.

we leave seattle in the middle of the night on december 27th and arrive in quito the evening of the same day, after a long layover in texas. more updates to come!
